1/17) Due to his amazing work in Apollo 13, he got an asteroid named after him. The asteroid is called ‘12818 tomhanks’.

2/17) You might not think Tom Hanks and Bill Cosby’s wife have much in common, but they both actually are related to each other since both of them share a biological lineage to Abraham Lincoln through his mother, Nancy Hanks.

3/17) Tom Hanks tells the story of the scene in Captain Phillips of Captain Richard Phillips' medical examination. The scene was improvised on the spot with real-life Navy Corpsman Danielle Albert, who was told to simply follow her usual procedure. However, Albert was so star-struck by Hanks that she froze during the first take. Hanks joked to her that "I'm supposed to be the one in shock!".

4/17) During the movie Big, on the day they filmed the famous keyboard scene at F.A.O. Schwarz, actor Robert Loggia and Tom Hanks noticed that there were doubles dressed like them were on hand just in case the two could not do the dance moves correctly. 5/17) In 2015, Tom Hanks started using his official Twitter account in part to post photos and locations of lost items (ranging from gloves to socks, hats, etc.) that he saw on the streets of New York, including funny captions. In at least one case, this resulted in the lost property being returned to its owner--in October 2015, he found the Fordham College ID for a woman named Lauren, and she retrieved it from his office.
